I was honoured to be bridesmaid at one of my friends weddings in Palma last month. Here are 4 tips the bride and bridal party followed when getting ready for the special day.
A lightweight moisturiser to prime the skin
When it comes to skincare for your wedding day less is more! Its all about the night before prep. I always recommend for my brides to spoil their skin the evening before their big day with their favourite nourishing balms/oils or treatments. This will ensure your skin is glowing for the special day without having to use much skincare. A simple 2 step cleanse and moisturise routine to prep for makeup is all your need for a long wearing makeup.
A Setting Powder
I never use setting powder on myself usually but for long lasting occasion makeup setting your base is a must. Loose powder is more finely milled and gives a fuller coverage. This is ideal for combination/oilier skin types or anyone wanting that fuller coverage long lasting base. If oiliness isn’t a concern and you are on the drier side but still want to set your makeup pressed powder is a great option. Pressed is ideal for applying a light dusting where you need it and also great for on the go touch ups. If you are wanting to touch up throughout the day to prevent shine ensure you go for a translucent powder so it doesn’t alter the colour of your base makeup.
Matte vs Shimmer
Shimmer reflects light – matte absorbs it. This is particularly important in your makeup when it comes to photos. Shimmer is a great option for some products ( highlighting powder or a a little sparkle shadow) but when it comes to bronzer/blusher/lips for example matte pigments are best to really make your colours pop.
Layer that lipstick
Think of your lips like nail varnish! Imagine doing one thick bold layer of colour, it looks great instantly, but soon after applied its going to peel. With lipstick, bolder shades in particular, this is exactly what happens. For maximum longevity start with a lip pencil to define your lips and add a little colour all over. Follow on with a light layer of lipstick, blot onto a tissue, and then apply another layer. If you like a glossy finish add a clear gloss through the centre of the lips to complete the look never opt for a glossy lip colour as they wear off too quickly. Using a semi matte colour will last a lot longer but always keep your lipstick on hand as this is usually the product that needs the most top ups.
