I meet so many of you that love to invest in good serums and moisturisers but then are rarely exfoliating their face… are you guilty?
Exfoliating your face helps to get rid of any of those dead skin cells clinging on to the surface of your skin allowing your serums and moisturisers you invest in to penetrate deeper and really get to work! Keeping on top of your exfoliation not only allows your fancy potions to showcase their full potential, it unclogs pores, smooths texture, and is key for a dreamy smooth makeup base!
So how often should you be doing it?
I would recommend you should be exfoliating at least once a week, a little more if your skin is really dull and textured.. I use Exfolikate Intensive of a Sunday Evening as my weekly treatment and then in addition I use an AHA acid toner maybe once or twice throughout the week focusing on certain areas – along my jawline where I get under the skin bumps, my nose to combat blackheads and my top lip where I get pigmentation.
I tend to exfoliate of an evening after a double cleanse and then apply a calming hydrating cream afterwards avoiding any Retinol product the day I exfoliate. SPF the morning after is essential as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun post exfoliation.
Exfoliation can by physical (with grains to manually exfoliate) or chemical (with fruit enzymes and AHA acids to dissolve the glue that holds the dead skin cells in place). A chemical exfoliation is my preferred, however for my weekly treatment I like to use a blend of manual/chemical like this one for maximum results.
If you suffer with acne or have an active breakout you want to avoid any physical exfoliators and treat yourself to a chemical exfoliator (like an acid toner) to smooth and even your complexion without causing irritation or spreading infection.
How often do you currently exfoliate and what are your favourite products to use?
